## Summary On 2026-05-11, between approximately 19:20 and 19:26 UTC, 84 malicious versions across 42 `@tanstack/*` packages were published to the npm registry. The publishes were authenticated via the legitimate GitHub Actions OIDC trusted-publisher binding for `TanStack/router`, but the publish workflow itself was not modified. The attacker chained three known vulnerability classes — a `pull_request_target` "Pwn Request" misconfiguration, GitHub Actions cache poisoning across the fork↔base trust boundary, and runtime memory extraction of the OIDC token from the Actions runner process — to publish credential-stealing malware under a trusted identity. Each affected package received exactly two malicious versions, published a few minutes apart. ## Impact A user installing any affected version executes a payload (~2.3 MB obfuscated `router_init.js`) at install time that: - Harvests credentials from common locations: - AWS instance metadata (IMDS) and Secrets Manager - GCP metadata service - Kubernetes service-account tokens - HashiCorp Vault tokens - `~/.npmrc` (npm tokens) - GitHub tokens (env vars, `gh` CLI config, `.git-credentials`) - SSH private keys (`~/.ssh/`) - Exfiltrates harvested data over the Session/Oxen messenger file-upload network (`filev2.getsession.org`, `seed{1,2,3}.getsession.org`). This is end-to-end encrypted with no attacker-controlled C2, so blocking by IP or domain is the only network mitigation. - Enumerates packages that the victim maintains via `registry.npmjs.org/-/v1/search?text=maintainer:<user>` and republishes them with the same injection, propagating the compromise across npm. Any developer or CI environment that ran `npm install`, `pnpm install`, or `yarn install` against an affected version on 2026-05-11 should be considered compromised. All credentials accessible to the install process should be rotated immediately. Cloud audit logs should be reviewed for activity originating from the affected hosts during and after the install window. ## Detection Inspect the published manifest of any pinned `@tanstack/*` version. Malicious manifests contain this exact `optionalDependencies` entry: ```json "optionalDependencies": { "@tanstack/setup": "github:tanstack/router#79ac49eedf774dd4b0cfa308722bc463cfe5885c" } ``` To check a version without running install scripts: ```bash npm pack @tanstack/<name>@<version> # downloads tarball; does NOT execute lifecycle scripts tar -xzf *.tgz grep -A3 optionalDependencies package/package.json ls -la package/router_init.js # malicious payload, ~2.3 MB, present at package root ``` The payload file `router_init.js` is approximately 2.3 MB of obfuscated JavaScript. It is placed at the tarball root and is intentionally not declared in the package's `"files"` array, so it does not appear in the package's documented contents. ## Mechanism `@tanstack/setup` is not a real package on the npm registry. The `github:tanstack/router#79ac49ee...` specifier resolves to an orphan commit pushed to a fork in the `tanstack/router` GitHub fork network. GitHub serves commits across the entire fork network for git-URL dependencies, so the attacker did not require write access to `TanStack/router` itself — only the ability to fork and push to their own fork. When npm processes the optional dependency, it: 1. Fetches the orphan commit from the fork network. 2. Installs the commit's declared dependencies (which include a real `bun` binary). 3. Runs the commit's `prepare` lifecycle script: `bun run tanstack_runner.js && exit 1`. The trailing `exit 1` causes the optional install to fail, after which npm silently discards it — leaving no `node_modules` trace. 4. The `tanstack_runner.js` script in turn executes `router_init.js` from the host package's tarball. ## Patches Affected versions are being deprecated on npm with a `SECURITY:` notice. Where npm policy allows (no existing third-party dependents), affected versions are also being unpublished. The npm security team has been engaged to pull tarballs server-side for versions that cannot be unpublished. Clean follow-up releases are being prepared. Update to the patched version listed in the affected-products table for each package, then reinstall from a clean lockfile. ## Workarounds Until clean follow-up releases are available: - Pin every `@tanstack/*` dependency to a known-good version published before 2026-05-11 19:00 UTC. The last known-good version for most affected packages was published on 2026-03-15. - Delete `node_modules` and the lockfile, then reinstall to ensure no transitive dependency resolves to a malicious version. - Configure npm to skip lifecycle scripts on install (`npm config set ignore-scripts true`) as a temporary defense-in-depth measure. - For CI, audit any pipeline that ran `install` against `@tanstack/*` between 19:20 and 19:30 UTC on 2026-05-11. Prior to 1.35.4, there is a security vulnerability in Vaultwarden that allows bypassing the login brute-force protection if email 2fa is enabled. If email 2fa is enabled, the unprotected 2fa-function send_email_login (email.rs, api endpoint /api/two-factor/send-email-login) also acts as an oracle determining whether a username-password combination is correct. An attacker can abuse that endpoint to brute-force passwords without rate-limiting. This works even for users who don't have email 2fa configured. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.35.4.

The organization invite flow uses a two-step process: accepting an invite transitions membership from Invited to Accepted, and a separate confirmation by an existing owner upgrades it to Confirmed. The POST /api/ciphers/purge endpoint uses plain Headers and only checks that the membership type is Owner without verifying that the membership status is Confirmed. An authenticated user who has been invited as an organization owner and has accepted the invite and has not yet been confirmed can call this endpoint to hard-delete all ciphers and attachments in the organization, causing immediate organization-wide data loss. Prior to 1.35.5, Vaultwarden does not enforce that a groups_users.users_organizations_uuid entry belongs to the same organization as groups.groups_uuid, or a collections_groups.collections_uuid entry belongs to the same organization as collections_groups.groups_uuid. Multiple organization group-management endpoints accept arbitrary MembershipId and CollectionId values and persist them directly without verifying org consistency. This lets an attacker who is Admin in Organization A, and only a low-privileged member in Organization B bind their Org B membership UUID into an Org A group, then use that foreign group relationship to gain unauthorized access to Org B vault data. With an accessAll=true Org A group, the attacker can make /api/sync and /api/ciphers enumerate Org B ciphers. Once those unauthorized sync results reveal Org B collection IDs, the attacker can also bind those foreign collection IDs to the Org A group and turn the same flaw into write access over Org B items. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.35.5.

Prior to v1.0.4-beta.1, a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists due to a discrepancy between the backend validation layer and the frontend browser rendering engine. The SVGSanitizer (src/main/lib/svgSanitizer.ts) restricts script execution by scrubbing javascript: protocols using plain-text regular expressions. However, it fails to account for HTML entity decoding prior to Vue's v-html DOM insertion inside the SvgArtifact.vue component. By feeding an SVG artifact with obfuscated entities (e.g., javascript:alert(1)), an attacker can completely bypass the sanitizer, culminating in arbitrary JavaScript execution when a victim interacts with the rendered SVG Element. This vulnerability is fixed in v1.0.4-beta.1.

An attacker or a compromised AI endpoint returning a Markdown link can trigger a target="_blank" native window interception in tabPresenter.ts, which forwards the malicious URL directly to shell.openExternal(url) and completely bypasses the isValidExternalUrl security boundary. Outline is a service that allows for collaborative documentation. From 0.84.0 to 1.7.0, the subscriptions.create API endpoint in server/routes/api/subscriptions/subscriptions.ts exhibits a broken authorization pattern. When both collectionId and documentId are supplied in the request, the route handler authorizes ONLY the collection branch (line 125 if (collectionId)), while the downstream subscriptionCreator command at server/commands/subscriptionCreator.ts writes the subscription against the documentId (which was never validated). The result is a subscription record pinning the attacker's user to a victim document the attacker has no read access to, on any team in the instance. The schema (server/routes/api/subscriptions/schema.ts) only enforces "at least one of collectionId/documentId" via .refine() — it does NOT enforce mutual exclusivity, so passing both is a valid, schema-conforming request. Prior to 1.7.0, ZipHelper.extract computes the extraction path for each entry by passing a full filesystem path through trimFileAndExt, a filename helper that calls path.basename on its input when truncating. When a zip entry's nested path is long enough to push the joined filesystem path over MAX_PATH_LENGTH (4096 bytes), trimFileAndExt silently drops all directory components and returns a bare filename. fs.createWriteStream then opens the file relative to the process working directory instead of inside the extraction sandbox, and the escaped file persists after import cleanup because cleanupExtractedData only removes the temporary extraction directory. jotty·page is a self-hosted app for your checklists and notes. Prior to 1.22.0, an unauthenticated path traversal vulnerability exists in /api/app-icons/[filename]. The filename route parameter is joined into a filesystem path without traversal/boundary validation, allowing file reads outside data/uploads/app-icons/. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.22.0.

libcaca is a colour ASCII art library. In 0.99.beta20 and earlier, an integer overflow vulnerability in libcaca's canvas import functionality allows an attacker to cause a controlled heap out-of-bounds write (heap overflow) by supplying a crafted file in the "caca" format. Depending on the build configuration and memory allocator, this may lead to memory corruption or remote code execution. This is the same vulnerability as CVE-2021-3410 but the fix at that time was not fully correct. Commit fb77acff9ba6bb01d53940da34fb10f20b156a23 fixes this vulnerability.

Attackers can supply a malicious ext4 filesystem image via USB, SD card, or network boot to trigger heap out-of-bounds reads during boot-time filesystem parsing, potentially redirecting reads to arbitrary disk offsets.

barebox prior to version 2026.04.0 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in DHCP option parsing within the dhcp_message_type() function that fails to verify the options pointer remains within received packet bounds. An attacker on the same broadcast domain can send a crafted DHCP Offer or ACK packet without a proper 0xff end marker to cause the parser to read past valid packet data and potentially crash the system.

Gryph implements logging levels that determine what content is logged to a local sqlite database. The README incorrectly mentions that the default log level is minimal while it is standard. Source code review shows sensitive `file-write` content remains in the stored `payload` as `ContentPreview`, `OldString`, or `NewString` at the default `standard` logging level and at `full`. This leads to logging of potentially sensitive file content in the local sqlite database, violating Gryphs sensitive file filter and log level contracts. ### Impact Potentially sensitive data accessed or written by coding agents may be logged to local sqlite database. Users of Gryph are affected ONLY if their local sqlite database is stolen or exported to remote system with the assumption that no sensitive data is logged. ### Patches Fixed in v0.7.0

Pi-hole is a DNS sinkhole that protects devices from unwanted content without installing any client-side software. From 6.0 to before Core 6.4.2 and FTL 6.6.1, two shell scripts executed as root by systemd (pihole-FTL-prestart.sh and pihole-FTL-poststop.sh) read the files.pid path from this config without validation and use it in privileged file operations (install and rm -f). By writing an arbitrary path into files.pid, an attacker with pihole privilege can cause root to delete and then recreate any file on the system outside the ProtectSystem=full-restricted directories, gaining write access to it. On a default Pi-hole installation this yields local privilege escalation to root via SSH authorized keys manipulation. If /root/.ssh/authorized_keys does not exist (default on fresh installs), only ExecStartPre is required. If the file exists, ExecStopPost deletes it first, and the same restart triggers both hooks in sequence. This vulnerability is fixed in Core 6.4.2 and FTL 6.6.1.
